Not quite the steep incline of Moore’s law…

…but not too shabby.

This lot, containing about 45 hours of video, reduced to about 22GB of MP4s, or one Blu-ray data disc.

9,000g/20lb videotapes → 16g disc

Also: Auto-reverse? Well, la-de-da. A fancy one.

That’s a good looking collection! Good sounding, I mean.

I’ve been having great fun watching a lot of it again for the first time in years – in the vastly more convenient way of selecting from the DLNA server. All the music tapes took just two Blu-rays, with everything but the “Other” folder fitting on the first disc. I have an offsite backup of those two discs as well.

    VERY nice.

  4. lalmon says:

It was fortunate that I was taping so much in that period because that was the peak of actually being able to see progressive bluegrass, Americana, and folkabilly (Nanci Griffith) on the tube. Even The Nashville Network had a fair amount of good stuff.

I had forgotten how much I wanted to leap into the TV and throttle Ralph Emery, host of “Nashville Now”, every time he interviewed someone I liked, squeezing just until he lapsed into unconsciousness – not a long distance – and the guest grinned. That man personified insipid.

“Are anklets a thing now?” indeed. Godfrey Daniels!
